Cary Woods

Cary Woods is a film producer. He produced the first films by Alexander Payne, M Night Shyamalan, Doug Liman, Harmony Korine, Kevin Williamson.[1] Woods helped to fuel the rise of the independent films. His selection of talent combined with innovations in the publicity and marketing of new films aided in making Miramax an industry giant.

Woods first worked as a William Morris agent, where he introduced directors Gus Van Sant, Michael Lehmann, and Todd Solondz, comedians Sam Kinison and Sandra Bernhard, and actors Uma Thurman, Matt Dillon, and Tim Robbins. While at WMA, Woods helped create the films Drugstore Cowboy and Heathers.

At the age of 27, Woods moved to Sony Pictures Entertainment as Vice-President, Office of the Chairman, under Peter Guber and Jon Peters. Two years later, he moved into a production deal with the studio, where he produced the films So I Married An Axe Murderer, Rudy, Only You, and Threesome. Kids was the first film he produced for his own company Independent Pictures.

Woods married and divorced Emily Cinader, co-founder and former Chairman of J.Crew Group Inc.[2][3] In 2002, Woods produced Plum TV, currently comprising eight television markets in the fields of politics, business, entertainment and media. He was a founding partner, co-chairman, and Chief Creative Officer of Plum TV.
